More than a million U.S. citizens lose their unemployment benefits as a result of the fact that on Saturday expired state program assistance to the unemployed. U.S. Congress before leaving for the holidays could not agree to extend the scheme introduced in 2008. Republicans insisted that the budget for the program – $ 25 billion – is redundant. Members of Congress from the Democratic Party promised to continue efforts to resume the program after lawmakers reconvene at the Capitol in early January.
